The following information is provided for students to use in preparing their class schedule.

The following information on the required courses is made available to assist the student in preparing their plan of instruction.
The Paralegal 100 course and the Legal Research 246 course should be taken prior to any other legal specialty courses.
- Paralegal 100 Introduction to Paralegal.
- This course should be taken first. Students will have a understanding of the profession and the program at the conclusion of this course.
- This course is offered every semester in the day, evening and Saturday formats. This course may be offered in the summer session.
- Paralegal 246 Legal Research and Analysis
- This course teaches legal research techniques. This course is a prerequisite to Paralegal 248 Advanced Research and Writing. Students will find the skills gained in this course helpful in the legal specialty courses. You should take this course in your first semester. Other legal specialty course do not teach research techniques and where to find legal specific information. This course will give students the skills necessary to be successful in other legal specialty courses.
- This course if offered fall and spring semesters only. It is a full semester class. The class generally meets two sessions per week, or two sessions (morning and afternoon) on Saturdays. The first session is a in class lecture and discussion. The second session is the lab, which may be located at the Santa Ana labs A108, the Santa Ana College Library or the Orange County Law Library depending on that session's assignment.
- Paralegal 143/144 Civil Litigation Series.
- These classes are taught in an eight week format. 143 is taught in the first eight weeks and 144 in the second eight weeks. 143 is a prerequisite to 144.
- This course is offered in the fall and spring semesters only. Generally there is an evening offering. Classes are scheduled during the day and on Saturdays depending on the demand.
- Paralegal 121 Legal Ethics
- This course studies the ABA ethical rules and the State of California regulations on the legal profession.
- This class is generally offered online two to three times per year. Students will attend an orientation session. Students may use any computer connected to the internet for this class. Santa Ana College provides computer access in the general student lab, the business division labs and through the library. Students receive assistance in submitting assignments through the distance education office, the instructor of record and through the labs.
- Paralegal 130 Legal Transactions
- This course is a study in contract law. It is not a prerequisite to other courses, although its basic principals may be helpful in understanding other legal specialty courses.
- Paralegal 120 Legal Computer Applications.
- This course meets the general education requirement D Computer Skills & Application Requirement. It meets the general education requirements for computer proficiency and will allow the student to use legal specific software.
- This course is generally offered fall and spring in the evening. It is a full semester class.
Note: Students must have successfully completed or be concurrently enrolled in Para 100 to enroll in the Legal Specialty courses. Students must have successfully completed Para 246 (Research) prior to enrolling in Para 248 and 144 (Civil Litigation) prior to Para 144 (Discovery). Students may enroll in Para 143 and 144 in the same semester so long as they complete the Para 143 class prior to the start of the Para 144 class. See your counselor for more information.
